lol. i see i haven’t posted here in months. and even then i just posted that i haven’t been here in awhile lol. well i will still be posting in my blog here. i really do love wordpress and have been watching alot of cool stuff on food network as well as found cool recipes on the web. but i have a new food blog in tumblr and thats been where i been putting recipes. i will post more here. i also hope wp doesn’t delete unused blogs.

but im still alive and as long as i am i will find more yummies to post

gotta go for now but i’ll be back!

WordPress vs. Tumblr & My Recipe/Food Site On Tumblr

i know i haven’t been posting on wordpress in quite sometime. been busy, and on other sites. i started on Tumblr in the end of nov. i now have 3 blogs there lol.its a very addicting site. and as much as i love wordpress, i been spending my time on tumblr alot! its their dashboard thats great! im not putting anything down on wordpress! its just that tumblr is different. u can blog in different ways then here. and its easier to follow ppl on tumblr and check out what they’re posting on ur dashboard.

anyway, just because im on there now doesn’t mean i’ll be neglecting wordpress! i have 2 blogs here and i love them! wordpress does make it easier on looking at themes. i mean specifically finding out what a theme has to offer before installing it.

Homemade Gumdrops recipe!

i never thought about making these. after all, u can get gumdrops everywhere. but when i came across this recipe my inner cook was jumpin for joy lol. i do love cooking cause making something for yourself is very rewarding and a self-accomplishment! its also very creative! cause after all cooking is an art!!

u would think that u need a thermometer to make this like other candies. BUT the best part is…..YOU DONT!! theres no special equipment required!

recipe i found on http://www.squidoo.com/homemade-gumdrops but im copying and pasting recipe here. i want to make these!! this recipe uses gelatin instead of pectin which might b available but i know id find gelatin faster then pectin.

it does just say 2 Tbsp. gelatin. now im assuming thats unflavored gelatin.

4 c. sugar
1 1/2 c. boiling water
2 Tblsp. gelatin (increase slightly if using fruit juice which will dilute)
1-2 tsp. flavors (see below for options)
food coloring

Sprinkle gelatin over 1/4 c. cold water in a pot and let sit for 5 min.

Add boiling water and stir until dissolved. Place over medium heat and add sugar. Bring to a slow boil for 15 min.

Divide into as many parts as you want flavors and pour into separate pans, lined with tinfoil to about 1/2″ depth. Add desired color and flavor to each pan and stir gently until mixed.

Put your gumdrops into the fridge to set overnight. You will be able to cut them and roll the candies in granulated sugar the following day . . . though It may be easier to handle after letting them set for another day.

FLAVORING YOUR GUMDROPS

You have several options for flavoring your gumdrops. Heres three different methods with varying results.

Natural Flavor:Use two tablespoons of natural fruit juice to flavor a quarter of the recipe. You will need to add more gelatin in the initial steps if this is the way you`re going to go, since the juice dilutes the gumdrop mixture and it won`t set as well.

Jello: You can use pre-flavored Jello to make fun flavored gumdrops, just dissolve one tablespoon of flavored Jello in warm water and add to a quarter of the gumdrop mixture.

Juice Powder: Dissolve 1 tablespoon of juice powder into a quarter of the gumdrop mixture. You might want to dissolve it in a small amount of water first to make sure it disperses equally. I didn`t try this method, so use at your own risk.

Artificial Flavor: Add about 1 tsp. of liquid flavoring to a quarter of the gumdrop mixture. If you are using candy flavors, read the instructions first since they are more intense and you`ll likely need less.

now i myself would either use the jello powder flavoring/juice powder or artificial flavor cause i dont want to have to alter the recipe if i added juice. cause as it says if u add juice your diluting the gelatin and would have to add more. 1st time trying something new i will stick to recipe. i would play around with it later when i felt comfortable with it.

so there it is! an easy candy recipe u dont have to watch the sugar temperature!!

i think the hardest part about making these will be the waiting for them to get done lmao!!

this will be fun to make!

Fun Tip

Try cutting the gumdrops out with mini cookie cutters before rolling in sugar instead of going with boring squares!

CHEESY BLASTER RECIPE!

so i was watching the new Ace Of Cakes tonight on food network. 1 of the cakes duff and his staff did was for the show 30 Rock. its a mascot for a non-existent food called a cheesy blaster! duff decided to surprise the cast and crew of 30rock with cheesy blasters! SO HE MADE THEM (and what a yummy idea they are)!! i never watched the show 30 rock. and if ace of cakes didn’t make the blasters i wouldn’t even know about this yummy goodness!

basically its a hotdog stuffed with cheese and rolled in a pizza! not brain science, but definitely delicious! or it sounds that way! duff made a dough for the pizza. after he let it rest, he started making the pizza with sauce, different cheeses, and pepperoni!

split the middle of the dogs and add cheese.

cut a piece of UNBAKED dough and wrap around the dog.

bake it. no time or temp was said but i cooked enough to figure out its the time and temp to cook dough which isn’t long. u figure 350 or 400 for like 10 min. or like i said whatever it is for dough if ur using a packaged dough.

he added melted cheese on top when done! alot of it!
*he did add hot sauce to melted cheese*

yes this isn’t for when ur watching ur weight lol. but things are fine in moderation so live a lil!

i found 2 links that have recipes also. this ones from the frozen pizza.

and #mce_temp_url# this one thats the 1st picture on this blog. it uses thin crust refrigerated pizza dough. (no cheese on top…booo lol) sorry i didn’t mean that, im just a cheese lover!

i cant wait to make these! but it’ll be awhile we dont go shopping til next month. i cant wait til i get my car and a job!!! but thats another blog

u couldn’t tell that i have a bad diet by looking at me, but i do! these sound so amazing!

of course i can make my own dough, but i haven’t in a long while! although i do make my own flour tortillas! that’ll be for another blog

id try different cheese combos, maybe even crescent dough! who knows!

i had to share this! when i found it i couldn’t believe my eyes!!! this guy actually made a giant kit kat!! WOW!! So cool!! kit kats have always been my fave candy bar since i was a kid!! and this story made me smile!!! and this is one of those cool amazing food stories i wanna share in my blog here!! u must read this story and look at the cool photos!! its just amazing he did this!! i can just imagine the expense for all that chocolate and wafers, but WOW!! i just finished watching Throwdown with Bobby Flay. this episode was about BBQ Chicken, but the chicken isn’t what im blogging about! its about the chef bobby challenged… Sergeant Brad Turner and his show. he’s in the US Army and cooks at the Pentagon!

this guy is fun & cool to watch! when i heard he had a cooking show of his own i had to find it! and i did So thats what im sharing here!

its something different that i wanted to share!
there’s 3 seasons that you can check out! fun recipes to save too i might add!

season 1 has 14 episodes! Recipes for: pies, soul food, family faves, sandwiches, desserts, comfort food, chicken, turkey, soups, greens!

Season 2 also has 14 episodes! Recipes for: fish, pies, high fiber meals, admirals faves, fruit, eggs, gumbo, beans, and more! even an ep called SOS (shit on a shingle) army vs. navy. where they show the different way the army and navy makes sos. which is pretty much sloppy joes but kicked up.

season 3 has 8 episodes. and is all international recipes. german, italian, mexican, korean, spanish, Hawaiian-Asian, indian, turkish-greek.

love those military times but 4 ppl like me who arent familiar with military times. i figured out by watching their live feed change on the hour just now.
military time starts at 0000 which is midnight and u just add hrs to it. 1200 is noon. 1400=2pm, 2100=9pm ya know…..

Oh let me point out that the recipes on there are not huge recipe proportions that feed the army! they’re in proportion to us non-military folks lol. so they are very user friendly! so check out brad turner on there! he’s fun to watch! i say he should be on the food network but i know he works for a more important company

Paula Deen’s Homemade KitKat bars Recipe

i just heard some1 mention that paula dean has a recipe for homemade kit kats! i did a fast search & found it in a blog on blogger and i had to share here, on facebook, and on twitter!!

i LOVE kit kats!! always have!! and id love to make this when i get a chance!!

Homemade KitKat Bars
From Paula Dean’s Best Desserts

75 club crackers (I didn’t actually count, just buy a box of crackers)
1 cup butter (2 sticks)
2 cups gram cracker crumbs (from about 14 graham cracker sheets)
1 cup firmly packed brown sugar
1/2 cup whole milk (I used 1/2 and 1/2)
1/3 cup granulated sugar
2/3 cup cream peanut butter
1/2 cup semisweet chocolate morsels
1/2 cup butterscotch-flavored morsels

In an ungreased 13×9″ baking sheet, put a layer of club crackers. You may need to cut a few in order to cover the entire base. I cut 2 crackers in half to lay them on the side.

In a large saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat, then add the graham cracker crumbs, the brown sugar, the milk and the white sugar. I made the graham cracker crumbs simply by putting around 14 sheets of crackers in my mini food processor (in batches) and processing until they reached the consistency of fine crumbs.

Boil the mixture for 5 minutes (starting the timer the moment you start to see bubbles) and stir the entire time. Remove from the heat, and spread half of the mixture over the crackers already in the baking pan. I used an off-set spatula for this, but that’s not necessary. Lay another layer of club crackers over the butter mixture. At this point, I returned the remaining half of the butter mixture to the heat for under one minute to get it flowing again. Spread the remainder of the butter mixture over the second layer of crackers. Add a final layer of crackers over the top.

In a small saucepan, melt the last three ingredients together, then spread this mixture over the third layer of crackers. Cover and place in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour. Cut into bars and store in the refrigerator.

Top Chef University program, a bit Pricey!!

I have to admit when i saw this advertised on tv, i was excited about it! i love cooking. love cooking shows and Top Chef! but i was disappointed when i went to the site and found out they’re actually charging for this! i dont know why it didn’t enter my mind that they would charge for this! i mean, get real lol. cooking how-tos are all over the place FOR FREE!!

true it seems like a bargain for ppl who wanna go to cooking school! But this isn’t a cooking school. and 4 me i dont see the point paying 4 something like this when u can get free cooking demos all over the web!! their hook here is for the home chef to cook like a top chef. thats really what ur paying for! THE NAME!

NOW besides Food network, and Foodnetwork.com that has tons of free video demos and recipes by their own top chefs i found a few more links that i wanna share!

so u see paying $$ for something u can find for free online just seems ridiculous! on food network alone i find great tips n techniques from the pros! ppl will be joining top chef, just so they can say they learned it in top chef u, or they wanna learn new stuff. and thats all great EXCEPT u dont need to pay for that info!

u think ur saving $ by joining this and not going to cooking school. but u have to BUY the food in those courses! and some of those main food items can cost ya!

also have to point out that there are ppl out there working hard in real cooking schools! i gotta hand it to them. cause i love cooking! and would love to go to school, BUT i dont take stress well. cooking in a restaurant is stressful. so i do it for enjoyment. i like cooking for ppl i care about!! and cooking for myself is great too!! i would of loved joining the top chef u if it was free. id be just checking out the videos anyway (computer is in my room not kitchen), like i do all other cooking demos!

paying for Top Chef U is not for ppl on a fixed income who like learning new recipes, techniques, food info.

so if ur not sure about it, take my advice and just go web surfing for free gourmet cooking videos! dont waste ur money on top chef university!
